Seattle in all of it’s insanity and awesomeness provides access to many things. You can literally travel from the mountains to the sound on the same day. The best part about it is (pre COVID), you can access everything from the Metro bus.
After deciding I would embark on a new journey, exploring places with trees, I learned I could travel to local mountain trails on the Metro. This was a very exciting discovery as I was aching to get away from the noise and concrete I had been existing in for so long. I learned of a site called WTA to locate local hikes and searched bus routes to get me there. I then manipulated (it was not too difficult) my boyfriend into going with me. He quickly signed on to my idea and we packed for our adventure the night before, got up bright and early the next morning and headed to our destination.

The bus dropped us off on exit 20 on Interstate 90. OH MY GOODNESS!!! What an exciting day. My level of commitment was through the roof and I felt like I could climb a thousand mountains.
We saw a trail head to the left of the road as we walked, it was as good a trail as any to begin our adventure. It was the West Tiger Cable Line trail and it was steep. As we ascended the side of the mountain we began to work up a sweat. No matter, we were determined to begin a relationship with trails and trees, as well as prove to each other how strong we were. There was a bit of competition taking place that day proving to the other our capabilities!

We finally got to the top and boy were we ready for a break. The proof was there, we now both knew the other was completely ready to tackle any adventure. We shared our time and lunch with each other and the birds that convinced us they were being neglected. The day had gotten off to a great start.
This was it, the thing I had been seeking. The trees were successful in bringing me to the mountains.
As we sat and stared at the mountains, trees, and nature around us, I felt a sense of peace I’d never experienced in my life. Pushing myself physically and experiencing nature in this way brought a sense of fulfilment that was unfamiliar. I am not sure I knew it then, but I made a commitment to the mountains that day.
We made our way down the mountain taking a different trail, unconcerned of time or when we would find a bus. We walked around the town of Issaquah, had dinner, and spent a lovely evening together laughing and having fun. There’s nothing quite like spending time with the person you love, feeling good and accomplished, and beginning a new relationship with mother earth. Thank you Metro!
